Prayer Bead Necklace in Chrysocolla/Lapis for the Matronae (Mothers): Germanic and Gaulish Celtic Goddesses of Abundance and Protection
This set of prayer beads for the Matronae ot Matres consists of four sets of nine beads each on the loop, each set separated by a knotwork spacer bead. Joining the string is an additional bead and three charms corresponding to some of the motifs associated with the Matronae.
The Matronae were historically honored by both Celtic and Germanic tribes over a wide geographical area. They are almost always depicted in groups of three, holding or accompanied by various symbols. This piece includes the following symbols: a cornucopia symbolizing their gifts of abundance and prosperity; a loaf of bread symbolizing their nature as nurturing goddesses; and an oak leaf, a symbol of the protection, strength and stability they provide.
It is made with 6mm blended lapis and chrysocolla gemstone beads, separated by silver-toned metal spacer beads, and glass seed beads to provide a comfortable transition from one bead to the next and to make the piece lightweight, supple, and easy to handle. The loop itself is approximately 26" (66cm) in circumference. It is designed to be used in prayer and meditation, to decorate an altar or shrine, and/or to adorn a statue.
The beads can also be worn slipped over the head as a necklace. If you plan to wear it, please make sure a 26" (66cm) loop will fit easily over your head, as this piece has no clasp (although it can be made with one if desired--please contact me if you would like a clasp added)
The beads come with a prayer to the Matronae and with a cotton muslin bag for storage.
You can, of course, use the beads with any prayers, or for any god or gods, that you choose or that resonate with you.
